COVID-19 Restrictions & Advisory

The health and safety of our residents and visitors is of utmost priority and the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan is working closely with the World Health Organization to monitor and limit the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS TO AZERBAIJAN

  • As a preventive measure, entry to Azerbaijan is temporarily suspended for all citizens of China and Iran. Visa issuance for the citizens of these countries has also been suspended.
  • As a preventive measure, Azerbaijan has suspended processing "ASAN Visa". Foreign nationals wishing to visit Azerbaijan are requested to apply for a visa through relevant local Azerbaijani embassies and consulates that will operate in a special mode. For further inquiries, please contact info@evisa.gov.az.
  • To obtain permission to enter Azerbaijan, foreigners must submit a medical certificate after being tested for COVID-19. This requirement also applies to Azerbaijani citizens who have visited countries affected by an outbreak of coronavirus in the last 14 days.
  • Borders are closed with Iran until the 15th of June.
  • Borders are closed with Georgia until the 15th of June.
  • Borders with Turkey are closed effective from 15th of March.
  • Mutual visits of Azerbaijani and Russian citizens have been temporarily suspended effective from 18th of March.
  • Restrictions on travelling to and out of Azerbaijan by air or land are in force until 15th of June, except for cargo and charter flights.
  • Border officials are screening all arriving travellers for symptoms. In case of any suspected exposure, the passenger — regardless of
  • nationality or purpose of travel — will be evaluated and sent to a specially designated quarantine facility for 14 days.
  • Border officials are also taking steps to disinfect land border crossings.

Travellers are advised to carry additional supplies of necessary medication in carry-on luggage.

This advisory serves as a guide to help visitors during your visit to Azerbaijan.

  • Monitor your health closely for two weeks.
  • If you have a fever or respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough, runny nose), wear a mask.
  • Seek medical attention promptly if symptoms do not subside. Call the clinic in advance and inform the doctor of your travel history.

Travellers should always adopt the following precautions:
  • Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell or showing symptoms of illness.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or bent elbow when coughing or sneezing and dispose of the used tissue immediately.
  • Seek medical attention promptly if you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing.

CANCELLATION OF MASS EVENTS

In order to contain transmission of the virus, mass events and celebrations have been cancelled. We suggest you refrain from attending mass events, crowded venues and public gathering areas unless necessary.

1. Is it safe to visit Azerbaijan in light of the ongoing spread of COVID-19?

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, which began in December 2019, presents a significant challenge for the entire world. All travellers are recommended to follow the guidelines instructed by the World Health Organisation in preparation for your trip, and to reduce risk of exposure to COVID-19.

2. How many cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Azerbaijan?

5246 people tested positive for coronavirus in Azerbaijan, with 61 fatalities. 3327 people have fully recovered and been discharged. The condition of 58 is assessed as serious, the health of 68 people is moderate while the rest remain in stable condition. 4. Is Azerbaijan restricting travel from any destinations in particular?

Restrictions on travelling to and out of Azerbaijan by air or land are in force until 15th of June, except for cargo and charter flights.

Issuance of e-visas has been temporarily suspended for all foreign citizens. Those who wish to visit can apply for a visa via their local embassy. To obtain permission to enter Azerbaijan, foreigners have to submit a medical certificate after being tested for COVID-19. All travellers will be subject to health monitoring upon arrival in Azerbaijan and could then be subject to mandatory follow-up measures aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus. This could include being transferred to quarantine for 14 days, or 21 days if required. As such, passengers are advised to carry additional supplies of necessary medication in carry-on luggage.

5. What precautions should I take when travelling to Azerbaijan?

The use of personal equipment protecting respiratory passages is obligatory in the transport facilities used for inter-city (inter-regional) and intra-city (intra-regional) passenger transportations, at public transport stop bays, when standing in queue in front of ticket issuing offices, ATM machines and payment terminals, bazaars, public catering, trade, work and service facilities.

6. Is it safe to visit Azerbaijan’s sights (e.g. malls, landmarks)?

All travellers arriving in Azerbaijan should monitor the local news for closures and restrictions of tourist sights.

7. If I suspect that I have come into contact with the virus, what steps should I take? Will I get access to Azerbaijan medical facilities?

You should seek medical assistance by calling 103 (within Baku), 113 (outside Baku) or 1542.

8. Will Formula 1 and/or UEFA Euro 2020 be cancelled?

As of 17th of March, UEFA announced that Euro 2020 is postponed until 2021. As of 23rd of March, it was announced that Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2020 is postponed as well. We ask that all questions regarding event cancellations be directed to the organising party (UEFA/Formula 1) at this time.

9. Are Azerbaijan’s tourist spots functional?
  • All mass events throughout the country have been suspended since 14th March.
  • Cinemas, theatres, entertainment centres and gyms in the country have stopped functioning since 14th March.
  • The organisation of mass celebrations and meetings in restaurants and cafes has been prohibited.
  • Restaurants and cafes operate from 8 am till 10 pm.
